To become a volunteer you must be at least 18 years of age and complete the 18 hour volunteer training offered by the Sacramento Hospice Consortium.  This training utilizes the curriculum recommended by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization and prepares participants for volunteer work with any of the member hospices. Courses are taught by professional staff from local hospice programs and include the following: The History and Philosophy of Hospice Care, Concepts of Death and Dying, Communication and End of Life Issues, Clinical Aspects of Hospice, Psychosocial Issues, Spiritual and Cultural Issues in Hospice, Grief and Bereavement, and the Role of the Hospice Volunteer.

Training is offered at no charge, however we gratefully accept donations to help offset training costs.  Donations can be made on our website or by mail and may be tax deductible as a charitable contribution to the limits allowed by federal law.
